In keeping with our philosophy of working with existing NGO’s, myNADI’s first project was to work together with the Malaysian Hindu Council to invite the Prime Minister of Malaysia to Batu Caves for the 1 Malaysia Batu Caves Carnival on 9 August 2009.
During this historic visit, YAB Dato’ Seri was greeted by a crowd of almost six thousand Indians of Malaysian origin. Overwhelmed by the warmth of the welcome, he promised not only to come on Thaipusam day 2010, but also to upgrade the facilities at Batu Caves.
myNADI also organised to the unprecedented facelift of Batu Caves, sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism. Due to the high number of visitors and tourists who visit Batu Caves each year, the temple committee had earlier requested aid from the Ministry of Tourism to upgrade various facilities.
Working with various Government agencies, myNADI was able to facilitate an allocation of RM3.6 million from the Ministry of Tourism for infrastructure upgrading, which included underground drainage, paving of the entire car park and pedestrian walk-way leading to the foot of the staircase to the caves.
The Minister of Tourism, YBhg Datuk Dr Ng Yen Yen, officiated the handing over ceremony on the 29th of January 2010 and in her speech, she acknowledged that the upgrading was done for the comfort and convenience of both the temple devotees and tourists.
